Supporting Teachers in a Rural Community

The residents of the community are mainly inhabitants from the most marginalized ethnic groups and cannot afford to send their children to secondary schools in neighbouring towns.

In 2021 we received a request directly from the community, asking us to fund a year 6 teacher who would be based at Kalika primary school which is centrally based and therefore easily accessible to the three other primary schools in the area. The government had agreed to take on this commitment once a need was demonstrated. After one year they did indeed take on this teachers salary, freeing us up to fund a year 7 teacher. After the government stepped in to cover the salaries of a year 6 and 7 teacher in 2022, we provided the necessary funds for a year 8 teacher. There are currently 14 students in year 8.

Up until the new teacher was employed, many children had to leave education aged only 11 years old.
