Warm winter clothes appeal

We are extremely grateful to Anil for all his hard work in organising the purchasing and distribution of parcels of winter clothes to children in Makwanpur who were most in need.

Each package contained a hooded jacket, one fleece sweater, a pair of woollen gloves, woollen socks and a woollen scarf.

The extended effects of the pandemic and Nepal’s poor economy has made humanitarian efforts for children more vital than ever. Many children miss school because they are forced to stay at their homes because they do not have proper warm winter clothes.

With limited resources and hardly any access to health care, many children around the district are vulnerable to serious cold weather-related illnesses. Poor families living in basic conditions are unable to afford basic supplies to protect their children against the cold.

Children were selected from schools in Makwampur, identified by teachers as those being most in need. All children were from the three following maginalised, disadvantaged ethnic groups: Chepang, Tamang and Magar. These three ethnic minorities are living in the most inaccessible mountainous areas of Makwampur District.

Due to the desperate need for warmer clothing in this inhospitable climate we have extended the programme for a third year and hope that can continue.  We were delighted on our recent visit in March 2023 to see several of the children wearing their coats,as you can see in this video of them dancing.

“We are proud to be a part of the program supported by Nepal-ease because our school is situated far-off from the road and also inaccessible for many organizations, but we thank Nepal-ease for considering our school and children as beneficiaries.” - Chairperson school management committee Mr Surya Bahad
